Matt Crane

Matt Crane, born and raised in Los Angeles, has been immersed in percussion since childhood. From a fourth-grade “drum kit” made of ice cream bins to punk shows in the early eighties, to the revelation of jazz and performing with Ornette Coleman, to participating in a voodoo ceremony in Haiti, his musical development has been restless and expansive. Since the early nineties, Crane has focused on pure improvisation, pursuing a practice that continually reshapes itself. Based in Long Beach, CA, he remains an active collaborator, performer, and recording artist across the West Coast experimental and improvising communities.
